A popular TV show that highlights hidden gem restaurants across the country is back for another helping of excellent food in Southern Alberta.
Pizza, burgers and barbecue are on the menu as You Gotta Eat Here has hit up spots in Lethbridge, Claresholm, Priddis and two restaurants in Calgary, including Naina’s Kitchen, where the show was filming yesterday.
Two Guys and a Pizza Place, Roy’s Place, Priddis View and Brew, Naina’s and Bookers BBQ and Crab Shack will all be featured in the upcoming season of the show, which airs on Food Network Canada.
John Catucci, who has the enviable job of hosting the show and eating his way across Canada, said even though You Gotta Eat Here is shooting its fourth season, there are still plenty of restaurants that deserve time in the spotlight.
“There are still all those hidden gems that we haven’t hit yet,” he says, adding emails pour in to the show with recommendations.
Among those gems is Naina’s Kitchen, a comfort food-focused spot known for its stuffed burgers and poutine. Catucci says all he’d heard about the restaurant proved to be true.
“It’s lived up to my expectations,” he says.
While gourmet food has its place in Canada’s culinary scene, there is something to be said for good old-fashioned comfort food, mom-and-pop restaurants and that taste of nostalgia.
“I like that we’re hitting a place like Naina’s that feels like a family diner like I went to with my parents as a kid,” says Catucci.
The new season of the show will air next year.
